LGC are the current holders of the trophy so let’s make sure that we win it again!

LGC Cadet Dates and Opportunities 2015

Feb 28                 Latest date for re-applying to the scheme

Most important if you want to be part of Cadet scheme in 2015

Mar 21-22            Cadet Induction days

2 separate days with new cadets on each of the days, we will use a similar format to last year. One K21 will be allocated to the cadet team each day. It is primarily for giving the new cadets a first flight. Please try and come along on at least one of the days, it’ll be a chance to meet the new cadets and help them get their first flights.

Apr 17-19             Juniors Winter Series – Shennington

BGA Juniors event for the senior cadets.

May 26-29         Cadet Challenge (possible tbc)

An inter club, fun, cadet gliding competition, which Dunstable hosted and won last year. Only provisional at this stage, further details will appear here in due course.

Jul 25 – Aug 2   Dunstable Regionals

This is the main week of the year which you should try and set aside and plan to be at the club. To help with the competition and have a lot of fun in the process. The cadet glider will probably be flying in this comp with some of the senior cadets.

Aug 22-30         Junior Nationals – Aston Down

One lucky (and hopefully skilled) cadet will fly the cadet glider in the competition and represent the Dunstable cadets.

Aug 24-30         Duo Discus at the Junior Nationals – Aston Down

From the Monday our own Duo Discus will be at the comp flying the same tasks as the Juniors. This will give some of you an opportunity to fly in this with an experienced Competition pilot.

Sep 1-19           Llanbedr expedition

This is being organised as a general club expedition by Robin and Dan. However, it has been timed to allow cadets to participate before returning to school or university. It is a great new place to fly from. The Duo Discus and the cadet glider will be there.

Cadet Challenge 2014!

2014 Cadet Challenge

Well what a great couple of days it was, resulting in LGC bringing the trophy home where it can be proudly be seen behind the bar! Luckily there were plenty of cameras out and about which captured some pictures during the 2 day comp! I think all the teams really enjoyed themselves and was a brilliant social event meeting cadets from different clubs. Above is a pic of the competitors followed by some of the best pictures taken during the 2 days.

Cadet Challenge 2014 – Dunstable B Team take first day

Dunstable B Team (Harry, Sammy, Laurence and Chris) reaching the finish point on top of Dunstable Downs. They trounced the opposition with a time of just over 12 minutes from Tug Hangar to Downs Car Park carrying a large trestle, a heavy wing dolly a bucket of water (of which most made it to the top) and all joined together with an aero-tow rope. A great performance – well done guys.

Inter Club Cadet Challenge 2014!

The next competition has now been confirmed as taking place on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th August at LGC and will be between cadets from LGC, Bicester and Oxford. It falls the week after the Regionals so gives you an excuse for a few more days camping at the club! Visitors will be arriving on the Tuesday to set up camp and for a social evening.

At the moment the we are still in the planning stages and still looking for ideas for the competition. If you have any ideas then let Dan or Robin know.

More details coming soon…

Meanwhile, here’s some pics from last years comp.

Inter Club Cadet Challenge!

The Inter Club Cadet Challenge was hosted by Bicester this week, where the LGC team of Tom R, Jack, Joe, Harry and Simon took on teams of cadets from Cambridge, Weston and Bicester.

The LGC team came a credible 2nd (only 12 points behind the winners from Bicester) in the challenge which was to stay in the air for an exact amount of time with  points being awarded up to the time limit, for altitude gained and points being deducted for time over the limit. LGCs best effort came from Harry who climbed to 5200 feet (up to the airspace limit) and was only 2 minutes short of the allotted time. Joe and Tom also converted to the K8.

Everyone appeared to have fun and had an opportunity to meet with cadets from other clubs, with this possibly becoming an annual event.

The below are pictures taken over the 2 days.
